MP3 Trojans

December 21, 2002 09:43 AM

Did your Windows media player or Winamp crash when you tried to play an MP3 or a WMA file? Well, that file could most probably have a trojan. And that trojan could have a free run on your PC. CERT reports on this advisory about a buffer overflow in MS Windows shell, which basically says, if you hover your mouse over an MP3 or a WMA file, you could risk compromising your PC. Both Windows and Winamp are vulnerable to various buffer overflows. Even the Tablet PC is vulnerable! :-) More advisories here and here.
