This is where science meets religion.
I bet there are a lot of other facts uncovered by NASA and other agencies that have been kept secret. The ancient scriptures do talk about other advance sciences used like nukes and other more potent weapons, crafts that are much more advanced than what we have today and medical science that is still hundreds of years ahead of our current knowledge.
All this goes to show that we had a highly advance civilisation in India millions of years bofore the conservative scientists would ever admit.
Our knowledge of the ancient sciences is just the tip of the iceberg.
Few more years and we would be rewriting the history ( history would now have to mean prehisory ! )

Nasa has provided only the pictures and all the deductions and assumptions are made by the reporters and readers. mythologies are always an exaggeration of facts or just a pure imagination and our poets were good at that. hope that does not blind your eyes when you look at things. the supposed bridge is nothing but a coral reef island.

friends,
the news is not a recent one and NASA hasn't commented about whether the structure is man made or not.
further the period given as 17,50,000 is totally unbelievable as the earliest known traces of human civilization were found about 300,000BC
i.e. the stone age.
secondly, according to Ramayan, the bridge was not built, but it was floating on the sea.
so i think that the actual situation might be other way round, i.e the existing natural structure might have been imagined by our ancestors as bridge by shriram.

The Hindu is only religion which has so many variation which is its weakness rather than strength. I belongs from Rajasthan and if we see all Indian Hindus think by langauge , regionalism rather than we are Indian Hindus and we should unite and work but ground reality is not that. In Hyderabad Beef Haleem hoardings are put on Tarbund cross openly but no Hindu has courage to remove it....so is that Hindu allowing in India slaughtering cows..With development this is drastically increasing specially in Southern part of India. So Adam bridge really links Hindus with history to feel unite only Hindus.

I think NASA took this photo for COCA COLA Copmany for they want to know where 8is the natural water source is in India. The kerala state have lots of pure water source. According to this photo they provide their coca cola factory in Palghat.

Definiately we do not have any confidence, We do not have any trust on ourself, our culture oru religion that is why we wait till some American or foriegn organization certify our beliefs. It will be time when We will need to have an Certificate from USA to prove ourself that we are hindus. The Ramayana & Mahabharata are real history and not just Myths. What we call as Aryans (or Aryan Gods) were actually an Alien race with super advanced Technology. The biggest proff is that the population of gods is said to be about 640 million which can be population of a very advanced civilization with proper mortality / head count. These gods (living in skies with Indra as king) also worshiped Brahma, Vishnu & Mahesh. Now why the gods worship another god and why do they take help of human beings or meddle with their affairs, if they are all powerful? Another glaring example is the accounts preseved in the texts regarding aircrafts, spaceships, nuclear war like scenarios. What were they? imagination of a tribal population? Gita was written by a race living in jungles? if that is the case we should have similair things from all the tribal population living all over the world... one theory says they were science fictions.. will you write science fiction when there is no paper available or no printing presses around? will you write fiction on tree leaves and let your generations memorise it in form of verses so that the civilization coming to life after 2000-3000 year appreciate your fiction works? The equivalent is you burning a CD having a novel on hyperspace travel and then dropping it on Europa (Jupiter's moon) via a unmanned spacecraft, so that when sun becomes a supernova and Europa starts supporting life, some one will find your CD and know what great writer you were and then they will give you a brooker prize...
The reality is that Aryans or Hindu gods were a Human like Alien race who came on this planet and genetically modified the most promising mammal species to resemble them and did a limited technology transfer and left. Unfortunately, due to internal conflicts the technology was used for mass destruction and what civilization we have left today after the great flood (7000 years ago) only carry memories of those great times only in form of texts.

proud of our religious heritage i am, though are we proud of what India is today? i mean look at us.. still fighting over Hinduism and our heritage and culture rather than giving freedom of opinion.
and what do u do about your rich cultural heritage and your God given country? other than putting up such blogs over here.. is there anything that you do in life that improves India. we litter everywhere spit everywhere. we are literally spitting on our Mother. if we are so proud of ur heritage as to what a Nasa shuttle image produced.. make other countries look at us with awe. I am in a tizzy about the recent research conducted in that area and the coming up of the age's old man made built bridge seems unreal.didnt v have a technology like this earlier may b say 50 yrs and why is it only now that the satelites are more concerned bout the aftermath, was there no developments until this day,and if at all this is true what sort of a technology is used which tells us that this bridge still exists, was it no visible to the naked eye

Laxmi has suggested that bridge name has to be changed but Muslims believe that that place is where Prophet Adam put his footsteps when came to the world.
He is the first prophet of allah and hence that bridge is named as ADAM's bridge. Even Christens and jews believe the same and this is famous through out the world.
As a proof for this truth which actually happened and not just story, is foot prints of prophet Adam there.

Well this is a great website and I thank you all for the information. To be honest I was looking for information on a ledgend about Adam being expelled from the "Garden of Eden" and stepping onto a rock in Sri Lanka. I think this bridge is a wealth of information on mankind. Does this totally put an end to the theory of evolution? I am an American Catholic but believe in all religions. To me it is that spark inside each of us that makes us good people. Of course I'm not Indian so I can't argue it's name, and personally I would rather believe it was built by the Gods of ancient history. Why did it take so long to discover this? I have a thousand questions now, about the mysteries and mythologies of India. My daughter brought up an excellent point, this pre-dates Greek mythology. Now I am held captive by a country I will never see.

The Admas Bridge is the only such thing on earth. Further investigations are needed but it seems very unlikely that the consistency of the bridge would be as consistent as it is if Sri Lanka was from India "pulled" out into the sea. On the other hand - if you pull a piece of clay apart it will look like that.

Mankind would have built it that way with todays knowledge. A straight bridge based on the sea bottom would be more exposed to natures powers and torn down much more easily then a bent shaped bridge.

Alternating streams in the oceans could be a reason of the shape, and these do fit into todays pattern. Sea bottom streams should be measured and the bridge "fundament" further investigated.

Multipel reasons and interacting forces should be considered.

Anyway a most artistic and interesting shape with grace and beauty.

Information wisely shared by all, i must say.
At this jucture i would like to add a few points.

There was a point raised by Laxmi ji abt the name of the bridge. To her i would like to say, ' the vision of the western guys is like that of a man who needs a correcting lens. they cannot watch anything without its help. Where as ours'( i do not wanna sound boastful) is like the vision you percieve which ur closed eyes. the vision which u see from the eyes within you. They are uncomparable. let them rejoice their discovery and let them name whatever they wanna, we still know the truth. when we were rich in culture and heritage even in the times of yore, the rest of the civilizations either did not exist at all or, if they existed, i am sure would be swinging from the tree branches.

Another point made by our anonymous friend that it was where prophet landed or visited first. but tell me guys when did prophet really come to earth? a lil before or a lil after the birth of christianity. which could be easily dated as 2000 years old. but come on! gimme a break ! we are talking abt a one million and seven hundread and fifty thousand year old heritage. I do not wanna sound fanatic, but dont you think this is ridiculous even trying to correlate them.

It is amazing to know about pictures of RAAM SETU. Similarly Lord Krishna's city was discovered under water and its pictures are there in Kurukhetra's Lord Krishna Museam. Indians were never interested in keeping any personal record of great legends rather they always focused on unchanging truth behing changing phenomena of this world.
These days following subjects are in dispute.
1)Great Taj Mahal is basically a Shiva temple.Indira Gandhi knew it but never touched upon this subject due to political reasons.
2)In Makkah, where Prophet Mohhammad's Grave is situated and which always is covered with a black cloth, there is a Shivling burried there.In Islam, there is a reference of Zambeel, who is tied with chains by Allah and Zambeel has an EYE at forehead.This is refering to Shiva.Whenever someone talks about Zambeel its one chain get opened, so Muslims do not talk about it.All the power Islam is getting is through Lord Shiva's Shivling burried there in Makkah.Only king of Saudi Arabia is allowed to go in that room which we all see covered with black cloth.

Today we need NASA's help to take pictures of what is hidden beneath Makkah's shrine and TajMahal.In 2011 India will be a superpower , that day Nasa will feel oblidged to serve us with anything we want! Because that time India, China na America will be superpowers.

We, Indians, are all very very proud oF our culture and such traditional religion.

Giving a proper name to bridge is necessary, not everyone is wise, it can play huge pshycological game on people. Entitling these Rama Setu as Adam's bridge can help them to spread myth of Islam and christianity, so such misguidence must be stopped. Because there are more facts about Ramayana matches than any other myth around the world.
Now, falks who are atheists and anti-religous, it's not religion, but materilistic hunger of mankind with rapidly increasing individualism cuts each other throats . I am agnostics. I take religion and God as a social science. It's an unique self governing Judicial Branch. If personal god philsophy sounds faulty to today's intellectual, please read Adwait, Vedanta. There haven't been created any history of blood by Hindus and Buddhists. Because of two teachings Tolerance (Idol worship, multiple paths) and Non-violence (reverence to all creations, vegetarianism).
By the precise definition of religion, Atheism is a religion, if Buddhism cosidered religion without God, Americanism is also Religion. Even atheism isn't doin any good.
God is the finest invention in the topic of Social Science.Eienstien's invention was one of the finest, but Americanism used to destroy Japan. It's not Eienstein(read God) or science (read social science, religion), but u know?
Being good reader of History, there plenty of evidences that Vedas were the sources of all religions of the world. How 'Abraham' is close to word Brahman? Abraham was nothing but rebellion to Brahmanism and he was illitrate about the need of Idol Worship to establish tolerance. Krishna to Christ? Mahadev to Mohammad? You must read about the empire of VikramAditya to understand how Islam was originated from Shivaism. Even anti-Alcohol concept in christiannity and Islam was brought by Buddhism influence during preAlex time.

It's not only Indian Govt's fault. It's people living in India, there hasn't been much personal awareness about their own religion, history and greatness. If we bring awareness, a great leader will be born!!! Remember Govt comes out of people, if people are faulty, govt will very well be faulty too.
There is still a possibility that our ancestors wrote a myth of Ramayana. It may still be a merely epic. our ancetors might be as or even more intelligent as NASA and they might have found this bridge and exact date; and they included in their epic. it's like I would write a epic now and include this bridge and actual date in it. If someone wud read it 1000 years later, they might think that my finctional story actually happened by just mentioning some facts around my fiction!!! Think about if someone will read The Da Vinchi code 1000 years later!!! I m not saying this is the case, but it cud be!!!

another sick thing is that even though the Americans know that its 1.7 million years old, still they will claim it to be around 2000-3000 years old 'cuz if they say that the bridge was 1.7 million years old, then India will gain historical and cultural importance and they don't want that 'cuz they are arrogant punks obviously. Really NAsa has taken good photo of Rama's Setu. I am so much intrested to see that photos. But why they put the name like Adam's bridge to Rams's setu. It is constructed by Rama only, then why they named as Adam's bridge.
while crossing that bridge nobody can avoid that setu, then how big ships and boats are passing throurh that channel without any intruption. Setu is so long vertically as well as horizentally then how's is it possible to cross from one side to other

I think that hindus that say Adams Bridge is crap and say that The Ramayana is just a myth, have no respect for the oldest religion and culture man knows.

We have Vedas with all the information humans need. The Vedas go from the physical to the mental. We have in the Vedas, Yoga...which is known to all, even the western ppl.

The things we know about planets... The Vedas tell us about 9 planets we worship or thank when we have a bad period in our lives. Any pandit knows the Patra's, which can tell almost anything about humans when the exact date and time of birth is registered. We also know rasi ke naam, which is one of the greater things hindus most of the time forget.

How wants to discuss? Before Columbus man didnt even know the earth was round, but our old books talk about the solar system.

This is like with the Adams Bridge... Our books tell us about this bridge and some "modern" people start thinking things are fake?!?!?

India has many treasures that even hindus seem to forget.

We all knew about the SriRam Setu's, the Dwaraka's and the Kurukshetras from folk tales and historical epics. Now comes the scientific evidence that joins our history with facts. First the findings of underwater city of Dwaraka in nineties and now the adams bridge. To top it all look at scientific evidence that suggests that the human bodies found while diggin around ingal-pingal(rajasthan) which belong to mohan jodharo and era before it, have radioactive contamination much higher than the ones found in bodies of hiroshima/nagasaki(Atom bomb), another evidence that Mahabharata is a fact not a myth. As is written in Geeta the first thing is to believe in the Almighty.

And by the way regarding the beef stuff i read in this post.....i have yet to find any hindu - relegious book that says beef eating is against the religion (if you know of any please let me know).

What an interesting discussion, I must say! I really hate how we in Europe mostely ignore your great history, myths and legends. This makes it very interesting for med to read about "new" stuff.

I agree in that human kind and our civilisation most probably is much older than scientists think today. Maybe not as old as to be claimd in your old texts, but at least very, very old!

All these myths about the Great Flood also seem to reappear all over the world, every culture has some Flood-story, which makes it strange that no scientists pay much attention to it...

Maybe you've heared about the massive, oddly shaped structures undernieth the sea outside Okinawa, Japan, too? They think it's about 12 000 to 9000 years old... That's really amasing! But the strange thing is that no western archaeologists pay much attention to that either... probaly because it's outside of Europe.

They've also claim to have found a gigantic sunken city outside of Haiti, with pyramids, roads, temples etc. But so far they've only scanned the bottom of the ocean, no diving that is. But if it's trus; that also supports the Great Flood-theory.

Anyway; interesting discussion. And I almost wish I were indian, because then I would know so much more about your legends than I do today. For us it's just Europe, Europe, Europe and white men.

Looking at some more facts that's not really clear. Also as some thought, it was named Adam's brige because Christians believe that the garden of Eden was located in Sri Lanka. That's wierd but that's what it was. Now I am for discovering exciting facts. I would be the one most excited if a proof were found for the truth of the reality of Ramayana and any other stories in our books. But honestly people, there are no facts proving that. And certainly whether a story such as Ramayana, is true or false shouldn't make a hindu disbelieve in all the morals and ethics and truths in our holy books and vedas and culture. I believe that one of the greatnesses of hinduism was it's tolerance towards other religions and respecting humanity. I believe that everyone has their faith .. just as they are human. If we can't respect others' faiths and claim that ours is the greatest one or the truest one or the real one, are we respecting humanity?

And certainly there is a lot of mystery in this world and nature and that includes inside yourself. So keep your mind and heart open!!

With all the greatest of respects to other faiths, and to ur argument Rajesh, we don't think we are the greatest. Just think of how the stories of other worldly faiths relate to ours, bearing in mind, there is NO ultimate western realised age to our Hindu religion.
Lord Sri Krishna, who revealed He is God, descending in his eternal transcendental form was born of virgin birth....over two thousand years later Lord Jesus Christ was born....[strikingly a virgin birth].Lord Jesus said He was the Son of God.
In the Jewish faith, they speak of the parting of the Red Sea for Moses. When Sri Krishna was born years before.....the Yamuna river made way for the Lord in remarkably similar fashion, when he was a sweet baby. The Muslims speak of the 7 levels of heaven...the vedic religion professed the same concept years and years before.
The Vedic religion has everything, therefore, it is said that the Vedas will be the only religion remaining at the end of this material manifestation, and will continue when the next cycle of creation occurs. God is eternal, similarly the Vedic religion also is eternal. That is what Hindus are merely stating. Looking at the above examples, I am not saying others religions are a farce. No. I am saying, what the Hindu scriptures have stated has so far been validated by other religions. Those who deny the portions of our holy scriptures, are deemed miscreants.
In short Rajesh, bare in mind, Sri Krishna's concluding messages in the Bhagavad Gita, stating that we should surrender to Him and abandon all varieties of religion. The ultimate message of our religion is one of love......Love for Lord Krishna. Chant Hare Krishna and be happy.

Do you know that we muslims believe that Moses and Jesus came down on earth to give the message of Allah. Allah send holy Torah, Ingil, Bible but they were not preserved. People changed what was written in it for there own sake. But when Mohammad came Allah sent down Quran and to preserve it Allah said to the followers of Quran to memorise it so that even if anyone tries to change the verses they can't. Today lakhs of muslims are there who have memorised the whole Quran. The original Quran is still present in Arabia.
About muslims fighting. First thing I would like to clarify is that a person born in muslim family is a muslim only if he follows Quran. These are only handfull of terrorist who call themself muslim and dont even know how a muslim should lead his life. These terrorist are only giving bad name to Islam. In Quran it is mentioned that there will be people who call themself as muslim but they will be not. Do you know before Islam came into existance people of Arabia used to worship Idol like you people do. But when Islam came people understood what is correct and started following Islam.
Do you really think Islam is on verge of end. If you think so you are wrong. The second higest population of the people in the world are muslims. Do you even know why is U.S. attacking Arab nations. It is atacking only for its own benefit. Only to get oil stock from these nations it is attacking.

Goddess Parvati is called that as such, as a sign of respect and in recognition of her being a demi-god. A demi-god is the opposite to a demon Azam, and is godly and devotees to God Himself, or Lord Krishna. However, the demi-gods, just like u mate can think themselves to be the Lord of all, and that is when Lord Krishna erases this ignorance. Yet we still have respect to Demi-gods like Indra and Brahma.
I have read various books on all vedic areas, each of them point to ONE supreme person who has nothing higher than He -Lord Krishna. I personally dont know sanskrit, which is the oldest language known to man, yet thankfully the authoritative acharya A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who is in the genuine line of disciplic succession was well-versed and scholarly with regard to the language and others too as well as scriptures such as Vedas, Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagvad Gita. He wrote and displayed the essence of all vedic knowledge for the west to recognise. Thus through his english translations, which were verified by other swamis and sages, we are able to read Bhaktivedanta's work. [He was the founder of the Hare Krishna movement.
This is the age of kali, where irreligion is at a high, even Hindus deviate from Vedic injunctions, the samkrit language is spoken by some but not all. Whats your point here? How many muslims u know pray and drink, have illicit sex, forcibly convert others to their religion??...of course, there are so-called followers of God doing it all around the world!...However it is Islam which seems to be the religion causing so much problems...question mate, when was the last time Hinduss started a war? Hare Krishna, you cannot question Vedic beliefs as they are complete, all that i have sed is just minute compared to the vast area that is the Vedic religion.

DURYODHANS FATHER WAS ELDEST OF THE THREE BROTHER.
HE WAS SUPPOSED TO RULE THE KINGDOM, BUT AS HE WAS BLIND HE ASKED HIS YOUNGER BROTHER TO RULE THE KINGDOM. LATER HE DIED AND DURYODHANS FATHER AGAIN BECAME THE KING. NOW ACCORDING TO THE RULE DURYODHAN SHOULD RULE THE KINGDOM, BUT THE PANDAVAS STARTED THE WAR BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO RULE. IF PANDAVA WERE CORRECT WHY DID THEY BET THEIR OWN WIFE WHILE GAMBLING.

Dont you people understand that it was just a war for ruling a kingdom.

There were two brothers from my memory, who was Pandu and Dritrastra. After Pandu died, blind dritrastra took over. The pandavs [pandu's five sons] were too young so the kingdom was TEMPORARILY RULED BY DURYODAN and his 99 brothers and his father.
When the Pandavas asked for some not all land, duryodhan replied "i wud not give enuff land to stick a pin into". The Pandavas were the true inheritors and yet they were not given a shed of land. Azam u understand this.....thereafter, the pandavas went into exile.
Thus, it was a bitter war begun by Duryodhana.
Oh and Lord Rama said He would appear as the supreme in His original form as Lord Krishna.This is stated in scrptures, when sages wished to go thru severe penances to become a conjugal love of the Lord in His next "birth".

Isnt it time that we stop fighting like DOGS and act like human beings?????
First - Why do we try to make followers of other religion believe what we do? One thing we need to understand - religion is not man made as some gentleman commented in this page.If it is man made.....nobody will follow it and it will not survive even a few years.For example if I were supposed to say "This is what I believe -you shall believe it too"How many of you will actually follow it?So when all religion has begun from one single source and if THE LORD has decided who will follow what, why do we have to object to that?
Why should Hinuds object to a muslim preaching in the way that he does and why should a Muslim object to the way a Hindu believes 9even incarnation)?
Second - Appreciate the fact that all great personalities existed - Lord Shri Ram, Lord Jesus, Prophet Muhammad, Gautam Buddha all. If you try to disprove one you disprove all others.Say we can easily say if there is no GOD,Whatever is there in the HOLY quran is just the words of Prophet Muhammad.And Bhagvad Gita is just whims.But...Holy Quran and Holy Gita has stood for ages for its content.
I declare a war - yes a war.Do have the guts and the moral courage and the clarity of thoughts to read the HOLY scripture.And analyze it.If you still see that its a mere hearsay...then we have to admit that indeed you are diffrent than even the reknowned scientist like Newton (Cause he has indeed referred to the existense of GOD).Great personalities like these have reffered to Holy Scriptures like Bhagvad Gita.Mahatma Gandhi lived on its principles.The whole world pays respect to Him.May be except us.
