Blowing Whistles

If whistleblowers are considered embarassing brats by some companies, there are other companies who think they are a key in successful corporate governance. If companies are really concerned about their public image, they should really introduce policies for protecting whistleblowers. Like my employer who recently introduced a whistleblower policy based on the provisions in the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (US). This policy covers financial irregulations as well as all types of harassment at the workplace. This is definitely a good way of ensuring justice as well as avoiding employees washing their dirty linen on a public square.

Recently, I read about whistle-blowing in HT Careers. I was really surprised after reading some of the examples of whistle blowing that were stated in the article. I sincerely believe that whistle-blowing will definitely help curb officials from doing malpractices in their organisations. In a country like India where corruption has made it presence felt in each and every department, whistle-blowing sounds to be a major step towards disciplined and clean life. But I personally feel that those whistle-blowers are not secured. These whistle-blowers are sidelined or just punished for being faithful although major S/W giants Infosys and Wipro had drafted policy to promote standards of openess and accountability which I feel that each and every conceern should follow. Hope whistle-blowing will definitely be taken upp as a major issue among private and public enterprise / organisations. Hats off to whistle-blowers !!!!!
