Domblog.nsf

There you are. Probably the first neatly and professionally done weblog template for Lotus Domino. Well done, Jake! And it doesn't really need the blogger to know HTML very well. Hmmm. Lets see what we would like in the next major version - multiple authors & weblogs, trackbacks, XML-RPC and so on... Wait wait, there's another domblog template too. This one is from Freedom Blog. :-) Update: As I found out from Anthony Connell, Freedomblog is the first Domino weblog template

Dear oh dear. COme on now, we've all had a drink... Play nicely. I'm not familiar with freedom blog. codestore's domblog looks smart though. Does it really matter? Well yesy, it seems to. But I am more interested in celebrating the whole open-source, freely-available thang the two factions have got going on. Don't sopil the lovely altruism by fighting. Consider it healthy competition. I know people deserve recognition, but believe me when I say that anyone who shares their code, knowledge, templates or humour is appreciated more than you know. I would probably have lost my job by now without codestore, straight up! One day I hope to have the skills to contribute NTFs like both of yours to anyone who's interested. At the moment, I'm working on a personal project at home, www.lemansworld.org, of which I hope to publish a live release of on the 1st of January. I will make the NTF available. OK, so perhaps my work isn't of sufficient quality for anyone to want to look at the code behind, but learning is by its very nature a gradual process. Enjoy your success! Play nicely!

Apologies to Nilesh for abusing his comments system in such a way. I would have loved to abuse it more if I had some reasonable knowledge of Domino. Since I don't I couldn't comment on more. More than accessibility, that Peter pointed out, that actually made the difference. :-)

What is better, Windows?, Mac?, Linux?, BeOS?

Now, wich one was first.

I don't think guys that saying, "I was the first, I was the first" has a high impact when you have a good piece of sw and it works.

Blogging, is not about the tool you use, blogging is about content, and sorry Brad, a nice navigation doesn't make a good blog.

Now, we have Jake's ntf to be very good looking, but I like Anthony's Notes setting pages.

So I can take what Jake says about it, if you don't like it, try making a better one...... I'm working on it. :-)

I'd have to side with jake on this one...about the neat and professional aspects. It's fantastic to see domino blog templates hitting the scene. However, as a blog reader not a writer, I find myself quickly hitting the back button when I encounter a blog who's design distracts my eye from the content...meaning freedomblog. Still good work for both of you.

Anthony. Nilesh didn't say it was the first Domino blog template. He said it was "the first neatly and professionally done weblog template". Read in to this!

Regarding your other comments I have nothing to say. You only do your own image harm coming out with nonsense like that....

Anthony, first, my apologies for the first weblog thing. Lack of research on my part. Freedom blog *is* definitely the first Domino weblog application. In that case, I do feel you should should publicise more about your weblog template. I think you should put up a pretty page for the template which is also the one-stop reference to it. Like Jake has done. I found it easier to know more about the blog template and its features on his site. When I visited your download page, all I could see was the download link for the nsf. I guess, marketing plays an important role although I hate it the most. :-)

Hi, Blogging and blog applications are not new by any means. But in the small world of lotus domino, its cutting edge :) I developed freedom blog. So, just for the record, freedom blog was the first Lotus Domino weblog application. Furthermore it is a ready to go, easy to use application, I think. I went open source about 2 months ago. Doing so attracted a bit more attention. Great. It had a calendar widget among other things. Something new for a domino blog. And it wasn't long before every body had one, cool. Not necessarily mine but the idea and technique maybe ?? Codestore ran a 'how to' article on a calendar widget shortly after. Later Jake mentioned freedom blog, but only to say he wouldn't blog with domino. Odd thing to say for some one who uses it to blog on a daily basis. And in the same breadth announces that codestore will release a blog template. Now, I don't have a problem with competition, and no I don't like the name, dom blog vs freedom blog, however it's legit. But it does stink ? Furthermore domblog is an unfinished piece of work, its barley a month old. Lacks any notes ui and he does not blog with his own template. Why, Jake who is talented and smart has taken this snidey approach is beyond me. Vested interest, jealous, challenge ? I leave it to your readers to understand it.

First off, thanks to Nilesh for saying nice things in his blog. Then both to Peter and Brad for coming to my defence. Glad to see there is some sense out there.

Anthony, not sure what you're aiming to do with your second comment. Make out that you're trying to have some fun? Your first comment is completely off the mark and out of line. Don't now try and take it back under the notion you didn't really mean it. There is obviously some bitter feeling on your side that only you can deal with. So, deal with it, and leave me out of it in the future. What I am doing with "DomBlog" has nothing at all to do with you or your site and the fact that both templates have similar names is nothing more than coincidence.

I have been reading Jake's weblog almost since its inception, and I must say Jake's is one cut above the rest. I do not think that Jake created DomBlog out of jealousy at all, but out of the fact that his readers requested it, and have been requesting it for a while. I visited the Freedom Blog once, because it was mentioned on a site (can't remember what specific site) and I came to 2 conclusions. 1. It did nothing to motivate me to start my own weblog (Funny enough I cannot actually pinpoint what it is). 2. I could not visit the site again because the colour scheme were a hazard on my eyes. I have visited again this morning and colours did not allow me to stay more than 3 minutes. I am sorry Anthony, even though your weblog is the first which is a credit on your side, I do not think what is happening between you and Jake is about vested interest, jealousy, and challenge, as most users/readers will not see it like that, but it will all come down to who :- 1. We (readers) are more familiar with (Fanclub) . 2. Has the higher accessibility. 3. Does a better quality job. 4. Has a better in-depth knowledge of the product. Anthony, all I can say is expect to see more Domino weblog templates on the scene, including plugins. Neither yours or Jakes will be the first and the last, this is only just the beginning. Peter.
